Linda Kay Kinnaman
Mixed Media Artist
Originally from South Bend, IN, Linda Kay Kinnaman has lived all over the
world. She found a home in Bartlett, IL in 1990 and enjoys a full life. With
interests in nature, world cultures and art, creating has always been a passion
for Linda. Study of the arts began at a very young age, continued throughout
college and continues today. Areas of study have included ceramics, needle
arts, beading, drawing, decorative painting and printmaking. With such a varied
background, finding the perfect outlet for her talents came recently with the
discovery of assemblage.
Assemblage is 3 dimensional collage that can incorporate just about
anything that can be applied to a base surface. Linda uses wood bases,
including small bird houses and cabinets or shrines, to create one-of-a kind
nature themed shadow boxes that tell a story. Each piece is painted,
decoupaged with her own photography work, and then embellished with all
sorts of collected treasures that she always keeps an eye out for. Her favorite
embellishments are beads, vintage buttons, old jewelry, and interesting quotes
that she finds in her reading. Each piece has a special hidden element or two
that will only be discovered after closer viewing. It is the element of surprise
and unexpected discovery that makes each piece a special joy.
Linda also creates unique jewelry with her photos and the beads she
collects. First collaged pendants or beads are made by transferring photos to a
base material such as glass, wood or mother of pearl. These pieces are then
embellished, painted and sealed with varnish. The beauty of each piece is
enhanced by stringing crystal beads, lamp work beads and natural bead onto
flexible wire or nylon threads to complete each piece. Unique color
combinations and attention to detail is an important part of her work. Each
piece of jewelry is a one of a kind creation.
